Serving Our Community

nurturing a lifelong passion for seamanship

At Phillips Boat Works, we believe in serving our community. Beyond the design and yacht management services we offer, we  home town. Jay Phillips founded the first  full time US SAILING Community Sailing Program on the Outer Banks! Hatteras Community Sailing runs numerous camps and programs for kids from 5 years old to 18 years old.  Not forgetting the adults we also subsidize and manage the Adult Sailing and US SAILING Keelboat Training Program.

Currently, we are fundraising to secure the Hatteras Sailing Center for the long term and to rebuild it into a multipurpose Community Maritime Education Center, offering not only sailing and powerboat training, but increasing our offering to work with public schools, homeschoolers and local residents to teach various marine trades and services, such as yacht carpentry, tool making, composites, wooden boatbuilding, fiberglass boatbuilding, welding, engine mechanical certifications and general seamanship licensing courses and programs through affiliated training systems so to serve the Ferry Division and Commercial Fishing Industry.

For our boat owners, we offer a variety of options in handling your boat sale, from evaluating it’s potential in the current market and marketing it to a specific audience to securing the top dollar for your boat and ensuring your closing goes smoothly. We also offer comprehensive yacht management options if you’re not ready to sell yet.
